Nowember 5 to 10, 2019

Day One: Monday November 3 - Arrive in Sarasota. Pick-up from the Tampa or Sarasota airports then transported to your hotel. You will have some time to relax and settle in, before the group meets for dinner that evening for a welcome and a brief orientation.

Day Two: Tuesday November 4 - We will go to Ringling Museum Complex. John Ringling who owned banks, railroads and famous circuses. In the 1920s, he built a vast complex in Sarasota that includes a superb mansion in Venetian style, a museum of art that was, in his time, housing his personal amazing art collection and a museum about the circus, in the midst of a beautiful park. The mansion has been very well restored and contains John and his wife Mable’s furniture and decorative objects. The museum has an important and good collection of art going through many centuries from classical to modern.

Day Three: Wednesday November 5 – We will visit Ybor City and Hyde Park neighbrohood in Tampa for their interesting history when both neighborhoods were developed to house the cigars makers and the managers of the manufactures. The architecture is simple but nonetheless offers a varied choice of house designs, some with a bit of F.L. Wright influence. Then on to the Dali Museum, having the second largest collection of paintings of the artist in the world. We all go out for a group dinner. 6HSW

Day Four: Thursday November 7 - Forida Polytech University designed by Santiago Calatrava! You will get a full private tour of this incredible state of the art building.

We will participate in SarasotaMOD, the Sixth Annual Midcentury Modern Architecture Festival celebrating Sarasota in the Sixties, highlighting the architects and designs that began after the first wave of the Sarasota School of Architecture Movement.

We will visit some buildings created during what would become known as the Sarasota School of Architecture, which was not a school, but rather a self-growing movement of architecture between 1947 and 1962, developed by a group of architects who wanted to create a new housing style, based on simplicity and an understanding of the local climate. 7HSW
