IN THE NEWS

Just a note to express my sincere gratitude for the most enjoyable and educational trip that I have taken. Having taken other similar tours, I can truly say yours is the greatest and was the most organized and best use of time anyone could possibly expect. I would highly recommend this tour to any designer. It was certainly time well spent. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and your concern and interest that all members of the trip were informed and well treated.

WOLFSBURG:

Wolkswagen Autstadt: a display of great buildings to promote its diversified brands. Behind the hype, there is great architecture and a lesson to learn about merchandising and display, designing restaurants, and showing a green future through one of the best “GREEN” exhibition ever.

Another experience is to see the amount of of photovoltaic panels in an area more north than Toronto or Buffalo, NY.  What the heck are we waiting for.

A fabulous trip YOU JUST MISSED:

The former Employment Office of Dessau by Gropius, today hosts the city's Traffic Office.

It is still used as a public building demonstrating the intelligent uses of natural lighting and natural ventilation.

A private visit inside the Einstein Tower in Potsdam, an astrophysical observatory in the Albert Einstein Science Park in Potsdam, Germany built by Erich Mendelsohn in 1924. It was built to house a solar telescope  to support experiments and observations to validate (or disprove) Albert Einstein's relativity theory.

Mendelssohn is known for his expressionist architecture in the 1920s.

Alvar Aalto’s Wolfsburg Cultural Center

& library: A great building almost forgotten. We had a private visit after hours. What a treat!

Zaha Hadid’s Phaeno Science Center

What a building and what fun you can have inside!

MAGDEBURG

one of the world’s, greenest apartment building.

"Die Grüne Zitadelle" (“The Green Citadelle”) by Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

Einstein Tower - POTSDAM

SANSSOUCI, the former summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, in Potsdam, near Berlin. It is often counted among the German rivals of Versailles. While Sanssouci is in the more intimate Rococo style and is far smaller than its French Baroque counterpart, it too is notable for the numerous temples and follies in the park.

Lunch where Churchill, Truman and Stalin met in 1945 at the Tudor-like manor, Cecilienhof Palace in Potsdam

Le Corbusier’s Unite d’Habitation in Berlin

Designed between 1908 and 1909 for the Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft (AEG), the factory built of iron and glass mixes Greek and the Egyptian architectural ideas to create what was for Berhens a Cathedral of Work. Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier worked for Peter Berhens.

Charlottenburg Palace (Schloss Charlottenburg) is the largest palace in Berlin.

The palace was built at the end of the 17th century and was greatly expanded during the 18th century. It includes much exotic internal decoration in baroque and rococo styles.
